1.Disorder Detected.

I would like to pen down my opinion about Thyroid as it might help others who are fighting with the same condition. This is out of my personal experience. Every mention in the following paragraphs is taken from my own experience :)

It was December, 2018 when I had my 1st interaction with Thyroid.
How?
I missed my periods and I was 101% sure about not being pregnant. It was something else. My health alarmed me so badly for the 1st time. I took an appointment with a gynecologist. I still remember it was December 22nd, 2018.

She was pretty sure it was hormonal, yet to rule out any other possibilities causing lower abdominal pain, she asked for a Urine test, Sonography, Blood Tests and a complete hormonal test.
Everything was okay except my TSH levels. It was auto-immune hypothyroidism.

Yes. It confirmed my lifetime medication for maintaining TSH levels of my body.
Out of zillion abnormal body conditions, I had an acute hypothyroidism.

What can lead to auto immune hypothyroidism? - "The causes are unknown but it can be due to stressful environment" this is what my doctor told me.
Every googled article said the same while few said it can be genetic. In my case "genetic" was ruled out.

I had many reasons which explained my "stressful" environment.
"Reasons make people weak" - this statement had hit me, hence I decided not to blame anyone for this. I just thought of keeping my calm and working on the things that are under my control now.

But your hypothyroidism won't let you do what a SANE you would do.

2.Opinions - Autoimmune hypothyroidism

When my gynecologist gave me a lifetime prescription of hypothyroidism, no one (including me) was ready to accept this had happened. It was the time for a second opinion. The 55 years old doctor also had the same opinion as my gynecologist. Pills started from 4th January, 2019.

Everything you will hear after this is:
  • Didn't I tell you your weight is increasing and you should exercise?
  • What?? You have thyroid? Will you have babies then?
  • Please start hitting the gym now
Very few people ask/tell you:
  • What is the root cause of this?
  • Please start taking out time for yourself now
  • Can you for god sake stop taking stress?
  • Sorry, we kept blaming you for this but it was AUTOIMMUNE
I don't remember anyone but myself saying sorry about blaming me for this.
All this while I was thinking of all the endless possibilities of why this happened:
  • Was it my negligence towards my increasing weight?
  • Did I consume a lot of junk?
  • Did I fail to go on a diet?
  • My workaholic nature that did this to me?
I was not seeing that STRESS was the possible reason but then doctor was not even sure about it.

"TSH" hit me so bad that I kept detaching myself from everything.

3.Symptoms - Autoimmune hypothyroidism

Before you start correlating any of this to yourself, please note that this is my story :)
Any similarity with my life pattern can be mere coincidence.

Lets start.
So, when doctor asked me for the 1st time why I was seeing her, my reasons were:

  • Abdominal ache
  • Missed my periods
  • Emotional turmoil
This was only 1/3 of what was actually happening.

After I got the answer that I had auto immune hypothyroidism, I knew what other symptoms my body was trying to throw at me:

  • Delayed menstrual cycle
  • Over reactive mind
  • Loss of ability to tolerate opinions
  • Early fatigue
  • lethargic body
  • Digestion problems
  • Pessimist mind
  • Gradually increasing weight
  • Non-responsive body weight to diets or exercise
  • Change from fun loving to grumpy me

Yes. This was all what my body was trying to tell me which I clearly ignored.

P.S.: I am still trying to find an answer if auto immune disorder gave me stress or it was the other way.

4.Few things that helped - Handling the unavoidable

After spending sometime with my condition I found a way to live with it.

Would love to share few things that helped me while going through this condition:
  • Do what you like and enjoy doing
  • Talk out every emotion with a constant person
  • Friends :)
  • Take a break from office
  • Watch your favorite series or movies
  • Take your medicines on time
  • Gradually start exercising
  • Take baby steps to improve your metabolism
  • Stop overthinking
  • Count 10 when you lose control :)

That was my small attempt to help ladies with similar health conditions.

Do not hesitate to comment if you have any questions :)
